Sorry. I did make a point of posting it to -users, even though it appeared
to be rather too esoteric for that list. And I waited a whole fortnight
before posting here on -dev with just a pointer to the original article
(not even a repeat of it).

In my occasional forays onto IRC, I do find the signal-to-noise ratio
rather low and the likelihood of finding someone useful also not so high.

Well I tried several different ways to solve it before posting. One of
the problems was that I didn't know whether registering with different
proxies in the same SIP domain was a feature that had been introduced
later than the version I have running on the box in question (Apr 2005).
It's a non-trivial exercise updating it to newer software, due to the
various customisations involved, so I wanted to have some confidence
that doing so would be likely to help before embarking on it.
