[Asterisk-Dev] Looking for suggestion on Asterisk Development

Hi all,
 I am new to Asterisk. I am looking for few suggestions from the experienced
developers.
 1) Is there any environment like IDE available either on Linux or Windows
to load Asterisk code for modification and debugging.
 2) Which laguage is more ideal to build applications around Asterisk. I
know java or php can be used. Is there any other laguages can be used?
  I would appreciate any suggestions
