Um, if they don't work on your platform, why not just submit a bug report?

They work fine on Fedora systems.

The bug report could even replace the whole code, but I don't see the reason
for removing something just because it doesn't work on all platforms.  Surely
then we should be deprecating anything that needs zaptel timing as its not
available on all platforms.
