Why even worry about it?

I may be missing something, being used to the american way of doing 
things.  If I am or this seems like a stupid comment then I apologize 
in advance.

Why not just release a working driver for that system and let the 
chips fall where they may? Digium is a american based company right? 
So if asterisk/zaptel works with the the J1 system they can't do 
anything about it, right?

Sure the people being paid to keep things incompatible may not like 
it, but if it works there anger does not change the fact that it is a 
working system. It seems to me from the information described in this 
thread that something like this is long overdue anyway.
