The only TTS which works with Asterisk seems to be Festival which doesn't support some languages like 'Dutch' and which is quite slow. in our case and my personal opinion is that the TTS of Scansoft is a realy good TTS and also supports a lot of languages.

Since there is already integration of * with some TTS packages, why not 
just follow what they do?
