p.s. in fact I can see that the site the front page had really invited me to participate in is https://community.asterisk.org which I can log into perfectly as well.  Please close and/or refile this ticket so it's not a distraction to this part of the forum.

The account I have just created on asterisk.org is not usable since I get a Crowd error, an inconsitency between a "local" and a crowd account.  I have a screenshot of the problem.  For some reason I can log into Jira with the same credentials that aren't working on asterisk.org/user/login .
