going back to 2.1.0.4 and the problem is gone. 

this issue was reported by alecdavid in 0015498 and it is NOT fixed and
should not have been merged into 2.2.0.2.

DAHDI Version: 2.1.0.4 Echo Canceller:

Echo is gone.

Obviously, not a configuration we want to stay with.
