Bruce,

TSG was the 1st company in North America to provide a turnkey longcode solution to mobile applications providers, domestic and international operators.

A lot of mature National carriers have multiple voice switch locations; however, unlike any other provider I am aware of, TSG's SMS/mobile interactions network  provides geographically redundant SMSC's (SMS gateways). One of our POP/Co-Locations providers has had about  outage per year, fortunately customer traffic went uninterrupted as it was re-routed to our other NOC/switch site. Additionally, we have recently secured a 3rd suite at Level (3) in a separate geographically redundant locations to even further ensure our clients mission critical traffic is not disrupted in the event of an outage.

Fonality is Asterisk (Trixbox) based.  Anybody know if it's possible to
flash over the custom fonality firmware with standard Polycom firmware and
use these endpoints for non-Fonality Asterisk?  Got a client I do IT work
for that asked me about dumping Fonality but they don't want to lose their
investment in endpoints (approx 40 of them).  Thanks.

Yes, you can use those phones, on any sip based system.  Polycom has
there firmware available for download.

As far as I know Fonality just packages the Polycom firmware so I don't 
think your clients investment will be lost.  So non-Fonality Aserisk 
should not be an issue. Just update the firmware to whatever Polycom 
recommends. On recent models this is probably BootROM 4.3.1 and UC 
Software 3.3.2 available from here:

There is also new 4.0.0 firmware but it's locked behind their portal for 
now unless you can get it from a Polycom distributor/VAR.

Have fun going through the 500 page Admin guide to put together the XML 
config files to make these phones actually do something :)

Fonality doesn't use custom Polycom firmware, they just use a version of
it that is known to work well with their system. I used to work for
Fonality, so I know.

The Polycom configuration files are somewhat of a pain to edit, but it
is doable. And Polycom recommended templates come with the software
download from the web site.

Do you have a Fonality server in house, or are you using the "unbound"
service?

If you need help I am available too. When working for Fonality, I had to
remotely re-configure phones and Polycoms have a web interface, so it
isn't that hard.
