The Media5fone app for the Apple mobile platform came out with a new
release recently, just approved by "the Steves" recently and available
for download on the iTunes store. I mention this here because some VUC
regulars helped evaluate the original client and made sure there was
some extra geeky stuff added. They did that, and I'm happy to say the
result is impressive in my opinion. I am not currently running
Asterisk, but I'm pretty sure the app works perfectly with it.

First and foremost to VUC, g722 is included and we use that weekly on
the ZipDX.com conference bridge, it make a big difference except for
John Todd who has become the reference standard for "non wideband"
quality.

Second, you can dial an arbitrary SIP URI which all geeks need in
order to be able to easily call numbers like 200901 at login.zipdx.com or
Talkshoe or other conferences, whatever you're into.

You can configure multiple accounts for Media5fone, although only one
at a time can be used. I tried the app with OnSIP.com and it works
perfectly, again, in g722 (aka HD Voice, the icon pops on on a Polycom
650). I also tried it with our European hosted pbx which happens to be
running Centile.

Those of you who run large user-based SIP servers might be interested
in talking to Media5 about a branded version, they might be ready to
do that. I can onkly say that the app, for $5 retail works great, it's
the best I have tried.

The inevitable question: Symbian, Blackberry and Android versions? I'm
pretty sure at least one of these is on the way.

I have no connection to Media5n other than having Pascal Doré as a
guest on the VUC earlier this year.
