Yeah a good example is what happened to some SonicWall a year ago (Well yesterday was a year ago...)

So if your comm. Server happens to go down for too long you could end up hurting a legitimate client(s)

That logic bomb can turn into an ugly lawsuit if it blows up on a
legitimate client.
Stopping execution would be bad. Destroying data could be criminal.
How would you explain to a client that they lost $xxx,xxx because you were
afraid they would steal your code?
What if it blows up while you are on vacation or otherwise unreachable?
