[asterisk-biz] Digium E1 card

Equipment for connection to the PSTN in Australia needs to be certified (A
process costing at least $20,000 assuming it passes first time). Only the
entity who went through the certification process has the right to apply the
certification mark. I would not be allowed to parallel import the digium
cards and sell them for connection to the PSTN as mine would not be
certified.
For the same reason I cannot legally connect digium products purchased
overseas to the PSTN in Australia.
Sometimes the manufacturer certifies the cards themselves as in the case of
Eicon and Dialogic, and thats great as I can purchase cards anywhere from
anyone and connect them. However Digium for whatever reason declined to do
this and only cards supplied by Austechpartnerships can legally be
connected. Sangoma are no better in this respect.
An extreme example of the effect this as on pricing, a single port Fritz BRI
card in Europe costs about $50, here in Australia the sole official
distributor charges $395 for the same card, absolutely ludicrous.

Hi Craig,
Mebbe its good idea to purchase from US distributors, if the prices are
insane :)
As far as support is concerned, you can get a lot of support out here
then with the distributor :)
Some times i feel that Digium is getting too arrogant in terms of
support towards resellers and their end chain of developers who promote
and make sure customers consume Digium products apart from all the odds
that Digium hardware are not registered and verified by local Telco
standards authority for compliance.
If someone from digium is reading this, please do take action :)
