Ok, I had a standard PCI network card which I tried to put in the slot.
 There was a line across the socket which didn't correspond to the gap
in the network card.

After reading the manual I assumed the socket is PCI-X.

It appears that it is not as a standard PCI card will not fit in this
socket.

Does this mean an extra space in the card?
