[asterisk-biz] asterisk hardware server

Astlinux allows you to create a PBX that is more like a hardware appliance
as opposed to a typical server. Mostly because it is designed from the
ground up to run on Compact Flash as read only. You can still run it on a
hard drive if you want to but you probably wouldn't want to in a production
environment.

With Astlinux running on Compact Flash as read only you don't need Raid hard
drives or a UPS to improve reliability. Because CF uses less power and
generates practically no heat you don't need a very big power supply or
multiple cooling fans either. This all has the double benefit of reducing
cost AND increasing reliability. You can pull the power plug out of a
running on CF Astlinux install and be 100% sure that it will boot up again
with no corruption and carry on where it left off. This makes it VERY well
suited to a small business environment where it needs to JUST WORK with no
on going administration.

The disadvantage of Astlinux is that you cannot run something like FreePBX
on it so it is not as good for a larger and/or more complicated setup that
may require ongoing changes/administration. The existing web interface in
Astlinux is quite basic and requires manual editing of *.conf files.
