I am interested in the activation of the cards by the cashier. It seems
like a really good idea, but would certainly raise costs (esp
purchasing the activation machines). What are the alternatives for
security?

Here in Jamaica, almost everyone uses prepaid cellphones. At first the
cellphone companies sold only physical cards. Now you can buy the cards
(the PINs really) online and also the retail distributors often have
electronic terminals that print out the PINs right then.

How feasible would it be to have cashiers get and print the PINs
online? I have the actually web part covered. I would be more
interested in the logistics (such as availability of computers and
internet to cashiers). Or is there some better way to provision PINs at
the register? I've heard of cards where the attendant writes the PIN
down on a piece of paper and hands it to the customer :)

Best regards,
