Why do you think other forms of VoIP Signaling were created?   H.323 was 
created by telco people who knew nothing about the Internet. SIP was 
created by Internet guru's that knew nothing about telecom.  MGCP was 
created for the cable industry.  IAX was created by a very wise and open 
minded man.

The ITU left the H.323 recommendation too broad and open to 
[mis]interpretation, which leads to massive interoperability problems as 
most people have experienced.

With the latest round of development on chan_h323, there shouldn't be 
any show stopper bugs for the more common H.323 compliant gear. All one 
has to do is READ THE README and follow it to the letter.
