Well, you've had better luck with g.729 than I.  I've found it to be OK 
(its no G.711 obviously) in quiet rooms, but not if there's a lot of din 
in the background.  Since YMMV, I'd reccoment the OP test for himself 
and see what he thinks.

Yes, but we don't know how many channels he's trying to push thru nor 
how valuable it is that his calls sound good.
