Do you know which vendors are going to seel the 4,8,12 cards you mentioned?
Are they really going to be * compatible? Echo cancel included? Wow!

|There was development making these cards Asterisk friendly 
|quite some time ago but Voicetronix didn't put any effort into 
|it so it never went anywhere.  One other reason it didn't 
|progress is that a component on the board called a hybrid is, 
|well, subpar apparently and created a lot of cross-talk/echo 
|when doing an analog to SIP join.  I don't think a fix every 
|materialized for that.  You can use this card presently with 
|Asterisk doing analog-to-analog only, just don't waste your 
|time with trying to use SIP channels, you'll likely never 
|defeat the echo.  If you did fancy an analog only application 
|the Voicetronix card and their own CTServer will work fine.  
|CTServer will support SIP soon but I could not tell you when.
|
|If you can wait about a month and a half, there are some 
|vendors releasing 4, 8, 12 and possibly 16 port cards using 
|one PCI bus that will be Asterisk compatible, with built-in 
|echo cancellation and the works.
|
|A more expensive but immediate option is to use a channel bank 
|and T1 card if you need to support a lot of analog lines.  
|You'd be paying roughly twice what a OpenSwitch12 goes for however.
