[Asterisk-biz] Voicetronix

Hi Anton,

There was development making these cards Asterisk friendly quite some time
ago but Voicetronix didn't put any effort into it so it never went
anywhere. One other reason it didn't progress is that a component on the
board called a hybrid is, well, subpar apparently and created a lot of
cross-talk/echo when doing an analog to SIP join. I don't think a fix
every materialized for that. You can use this card presently with
Asterisk doing analog-to-analog only, just don't waste your time with
trying to use SIP channels, you'll likely never defeat the echo. If you
did fancy an analog only application the Voicetronix card and their own
CTServer will work fine. CTServer will support SIP soon but I could not
tell you when.

If you can wait about a month and a half, there are some vendors releasing
4, 8, 12 and possibly 16 port cards using one PCI bus that will be
Asterisk compatible, with built-in echo cancellation and the works.

A more expensive but immediate option is to use a channel bank and T1 card
if you need to support a lot of analog lines. You'd be paying roughly
twice what a OpenSwitch12 goes for however.

Sincerely,
