[Dundi] Tree or mesh?

Is dundi designed to operate using a tree of links or a mesh?  If a tree
then doesn't that cause every node that has children to be a single point of
failure?  I've sort of assumed that it is a mesh because of this but I keep
seeing the word tree mentioned so I thought it worth clarifying.

I was planning on having our live servers in a full mesh with just two of
them linking to one different "upstream" node each.
