restart asterisk not really possible:

sudo /etc/init.d/asterisk restart
Stopping Asterisk PBX: asteriskstart-stop-daemon: unrecognized option '--retry=0/2/TERM/2/KILL/5'
Try `start-stop-daemon --help' for more information.

(but see bottom) for startup response.

after again purge and reinstall again now astdb seems to be installed, but still none of the asterisk modules - where are they normally installed ? apparently not in /usr/lib/asterisk/modules - as it does not exist

herman@ubuntu-1004:/usr/lib$ ls -la /var/lib/asterisk/astdb
<del>rw-r</del><del>r</del>- 1 root root 0 2011-08-26 15:41 /var/lib/asterisk/astdb

so that's ok now
but then themissing modules:

herman@ubuntu-1004:/usr/lib$ ls -la /usr/lib/asterisk/modules
ls: cannot access /usr/lib/asterisk/modules: No such file or directory

starting asterisk after installing my original config in /etc/asterisk gives the following result:

[Sep 14 15:22:04] WARNING[7494]: ccss.c:4108 initialize_cc_max_requests: Could not find valid ccss.conf file. Using cc_max_requests default
