Once installed you need to signup for an account with a provider to connect your Asterisk box to the Public Switched Telephone Network. My preferred provider is CallCentric (www.callcentric.com). CallCentric has some great tutorials and helpful support explaining how to configure your Asterisk server to work with their service. This will allow you to route calls from your Asterisk server to any phone in the world for a reasonable price.

You should make sure your dialplan is configured properly to prevent abuse of the server by 900-services and Nigerian scammers.

Does that help?
