My Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU D525 seems to be quite happy running CentOS 
release 6.9 (Final) in 64 bit mode:

 	sedwards:~$ uname --hardware-platform --machine --processor
 	x86_64 x86_64 x86_64

 	sedwards:~$ getconf LONG_BIT
 	64
