my config:
hardphone -> pstn gateway -> asterisk -> pstn gateway -> hardphone

i am using asterisk 1.4.xx

w option is Dial is for recording. how does it related to ringtone?

pls advise.

Do you use hard phone or softphone?
In many ip phones you can change the ring tones or use "w" option in Dial command
