[asterisk-users] benefits of asterisk 1.8

can someone explain to me the benefits of upgrading to version 1.8?
we are currently running 1.6
I know one benefit of 1.8 is digium supports it
also, how stable is version 1.8 compared to 1.6? Thank you for you input.
