I have this "weirdness" as well - depending on the phone (all gxp2000's) 
I either get steady green regardless of sip registered or not OR no 
green ever, and red always works as expected. Never yet seen green 
follow the sip registration of that device like I would expect.

not sure if my message light works or not - don't get enough messages to 
notice, for voicemail itself I had to put *98<ext> to get the msg button 
to do the expected

anyone else with similar experiences or info to share ?

BLF and Presence seem to be mutually exclusive.  I think you could use two
buttons for the same number, and get both indicators, but that eats buttons
pretty fast.
