[asterisk-users] app_backticks and 1.6

Hello,

Is there any app_backticks (see
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+cmd+Backticks) equivalent or
workaround for 1.6 ?
In the past, I had trouble trying to use ENV() function.
