We don't either, we use HylaFAX+ to augment the fax machines.    For 
example in bound:

PRI => Asterisk => HylaFAX+ (PDF/Email/Fax machine/Document Archive)

Example Out bound:

(Fax Machine/PC) => HylaFAX+ (Email/PRI) =>PSTN=>Fax machine
