What does your cable pin in/out look like.  I haven't connected two 
Asterisk systems, but I do have a dual-PRI on one system with a 
crossover cable; both spans come up fine.  My pin in/out is:

1 -- 5
2 -- 4
4 -- 2
5 -- 1
