You can still get the asterisk package from unstable and install it on
etch (testing). Sarge (stable) might be a bit harder though, but Etch is
probably more stable than Sarge anyway. If it doesn't 'just install',
you should be able to get the package source and build it under Etch,
effectively backporting it yourself.
Asterisk from unstable should be no less stable than whatever version of
Asterisk it is based on.
