Still waiting back on an answer from Aastra technical support on this (Damn 
they're fast though!) but to answer the other question:

Yes.  They are all independent (so you can have one base + 4 remotes and give 
them to 5 people), but there is one very big catch...

... only ONE wireless phone may make an outgoing call at a time!  WTF?!

That's right from the mouth of Aastra technical support.
