[Asterisk-Users] Asterisk for Voicemail Server

This system is not as the engineer thought, he did show me a system that
worked the way he described though. 

The basic idea (if it were translated to an asterisk system) would be
that there are 4 extensions on the PBX which instead of ringing phones,
ring ports on this external voicemail server, the server sends the
caller to the voicemail box matching the DID. (4 digits in this case for
the extensions originally called which is now going to voicemail) 

In any case....the system in question is using an interconnect and I
will be hooking up asterisk via a T1 link.

Been there done that too. Good old BT branded gear.

Its the same thing. A T1/E1 in the PBX connected via a crossover cable 
to the * server.

As for the 4 extensions listed below, I think I know what your engineer 
is talking about. A classic VM system consumes "ports" in the PBX. Your 
client has had to give away 4 of these to the VM system. My guess is 
that there's some sort of data (ADSI??) that goes along with the call 
when it lights up one of the VM ports.
