I thought that the phone.conf file was for using Linux Telephony modems. I'm not looking at using the zaptel drivers but in my case the pctel driver and using the channel type "phone". There isn't much documentation on this channel though.

not all winmodem works as X100P. You should find a winmodem with the Intel
Ambient MD3200 chip. It works great.

I've read that it is possible to setup * using a winmodem (linmodem). I was
wondering if anyone on the list has setup * with a winmodem and if so how
they did it. I have a pctel modem (pct789) I'd like to play with.
