[Asterisk-Users] Problems dialing out - possible settings changes

Thought I had this fixed, but it turns out it is not. I've been
wracking my brain. Here is what I have done:
- Tried 3 different Qwest PSTN lines (just in case it was a line issue)
- Tried calling same number from an analog phone plugged directly into
the Qwest line - NO PROBLEMS.
- Because of this, I think it is an issue with my * implementation.
- I have looked at the Dial plan and have made some modifications,
cleaning up some extra stuff that was not needed.
What is still happening:
- I am calling a single number for testing purposes. The same number
each time (yes, I have tried other numbers with the exact same results
so I decided to stick with one number)
- About 1 out of every 3 or 4 times my call is actually successful. The
rest of the time I receive the phone company's "the number you called is
not in service, please check the number and call again"
- I look at the CLI readout that appears using asterisk -vvvvvvvvvvvvcg
to start and it shows ZAP/g1/<the correct number>
Evidently something is happening in translating the dtmf codes, but I am
at a loss. More explanation is in my original post below.
Any help would be appreciated as we are going to use this as a
production box on a small construction job site.
Thanks!

Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Problems dialing out - possible settings
changes
First, I apologize if this info has been covered, I tried doing a search
on Google and the wiki and found nothing, but I could be searching for
the wrong info.
Second, I am new to asterisk and linux. My knowledge is Asterisk is
much better than linux, so excuse the ignorance in some areas.
Configuration:
Novell Linux Desktop
Asterisk 1.0.6
Intel CPU/MB
TDM12P digium card (I think that is it - 1FXO and 2FXS)
Problem:
My calls are infrequently successful. I have the dialplan to dial
_8NXXNXXXXXX and ignorepat => 8 When I dial 8206391xxxx, which is my
cell... (and any of another 5 numbers I tried) About 1 out of 6 times
it is dialed the connection is made. The rest of the time I receive
"the number you have dialed is not in service" from the phone company.
I look at the Asterisk CLI info and it is saying that it connected
g1/206391xxxx and the number is correct.
I am using a standard copper line here via Qwest.
Interesting thing, if I place this on an analog port off our Inter-Tel
phone system, it seems to be 100% successful on the dial-outs.
I have tried changing cords and even moved the server so it is plugged
directly into our phone patch panel where the qwest line is terminated.
Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks!
Jeff
