I think it would be interesting and not that difficult to adapt
Asterisk-Stat as an Employee Time Clock.
All it would require to calculate time difference between first and last
call on their extension with password if needed (and lunch brake if
needed).
When an employee comes to work he/she dials an extension that can only
be dialed from an internal phone.  
Using extra field in database it should be possible to display employee
total hours worked for given time period.
