Very true....
I have a client who is very interested in Asterisk but they are holding off
because I have been unable to give them a solid answer if it will work
this way.
I have found bit's & pieces that it *might* work with SNOM phones
and something called a 'hint application' but have not found any
substantial info or instructions that tell me if this will actually
work and work well or not :-)
I guess I am still totally confused as to why this is not a more straight
forward answer.... my initial expectation was that something like this
would be highly in demand in the business world and supported by either
Asterisk or an Asterisk add-on.
A lot of SIP phones seem to have this 'standard feature'
And of course Cisco does it completely and flawlessly.
With Commercial versions of Asterisk available you would think.....
Well at least this is the way I tend to think...
Is that Asterisk would have a way of doing this.
Seems that it it really does not (yet) though.
