Or when your boss finds out that none of the phones worked during the
fire that broke out somewhere in the basement and took out the power
circuits, simple because someone saved $200 per employee on *not*
running an extra cable + using PoE
Oh, and because of that, the boss's wife who had a heart attack died
since it took him an extra 5minutes to realise the phones weren't
working, find his mobile, and call an ambulance....
Hmmm, so who gets that promotion?
BTW, YES, it *is* possible to do what you are suggesting, but IMHO, it
is much better to use those sorts of tricks later, when you have used up
all your available cable and just need one extra network connection at
that desk, or perhaps just need to get an analog phone (fax) there
etc...
When you are running one cable, it is very little extra cost to run a
second (or even third) cable at the same time. If you can, always do
it.
Remember, if you have a spare socket on the wall, then you are lucky, in
my experience, they never last long.
