I don't think it's an expiry issue. When a phone reboots before the expiry, it sends a new subscription to Asterisk. Asterisk doesn't remove the old one. If subscriptions where keyed like registrations, the new one would just overwrite the old one.

 I believe the patch to correct the issue with "old" subscriptions not
expiring when new one comes in has already been applied to the /trunk
and /branches/1.2 codebase in svn.
