All depends what you call a large installation

As in ? we did some calling card setups which have quite some high
volume at peak hours as well as call centers where basically the lines
are mostly 78% busy.

We stopped supporting 32bit scenarios and moved fully to either tyan
barebones or sun v20z's depending on the budget of the customer and
the support requirements he has.

loads of people that neer even peek at this list I'd say. :)

Try to separate features. Your hotelrroms should be handled by one set
of boxens, external connections by others. This way you save yourself
from total outages and can dedicate also administrative interfacing to
gear to the person responsible for a certain implementation. We had
quite bad experiences with monolithic setups where one admin would
screw all of the setup with a small wrong move ;)

Mostly loads of testing, until you have the right moment in time *
version that fits your stability requirements, biggest issue being
that you never know what changes to expect in 2h
:)
