Am I way behind the times or is this precisely *not* how MX and SRV records
work?  A domain is a domain.  A subdomain is just a fancier term for a
domain within another domain, and hence not treated differently.  Last I
checked, failing to have an MX record for the host.com domain did not result
in a search for an MX record defined for com when sending mail to
user at host.com...
