When I use the kernels supplied with FC2, my Tyan 2665 dual Xeon M/B is
fine with the single processor kernel. However, with the SMP kernel it
locks hard as soon as I open a port on a TE410P or E400P cards. I tried
both the original SMP kernel, and the later FC2 updates, all with the
same effect. When I replaced the kernel with the stock 2.6.8rc2 kernel
these problems went away. I have had no further trouble. I have no idea
what is wrong with the FC2 kernels (or perhaps is just incompatible with
zaptel). I actually used the .config file from FC2 to build the stock
kernel, so this isn't some strange select in the kernel configuration. I
guess on the Fedora private patches have some unfortunate side effect.
The bottom line seems to be that most reports of trouble with * and
Linux 2.6 stem from the use of the FC2 kernels.

Steve
