[Asterisk-Users] A simple scenario

Thanks for your response Lyle I appreciate it. I have setup an Asterisk
server at my place of work, this is behind a firewall on a private IP
address range. I have set this system so that a monitored port is allowed
through.
>From my home PC I want to connect to the server via an IP call using
SJPhone. First of all into the server and then out from the server to
another IP phone(SJPhone). Could you help me achieve this. I am just coming
to terms with the extensions.conf and sip.conf files. I am a bit shaky and
just starting out with this stuff. Do I need a card or anything or can this
done from the server on the LAN?

I am a bit fuzzy on what you want to accomplish. Almost any softphone can
be a client to this server and then use a VoIP provider for connection back
to the PSTN. Or you can just bring the server home, put on your broadband
and just use it. If you are not going to connect an analog phone you don't
need a PCI card unless you need a NIC.
