[Asterisk-Users] Detect line in use?

Is there anyway to determine if is line is already in use by another
device such as a fax machine if the fax machine is not tunneled through
asterisk via a FXS out on a FXO? Right now * tries to pickup the line
and dial when I try the Channel Available command on the Zap FXO. Also,
is there a way to tell * to not do anything or close the connection if
it detects a Fax, without sending the Hangup command, so that the fax
machine on the line can receive properly?
