I am using 7940 phones with * and I can only say that the handsfree speaker
IS full duplex.
As with PoE, there is quite a bit of documentation around showing how to
change the pairs around on the ethernet wiring to make this work. I have
tried this with my "G" versions, and have not yet been successful.

Few minor things I found with the 7940:
* Hands free speaker is not full duplex
* Could not get PoE working with HP PoE switches (802.3af). May
only work with Cisco PoE switches/standard ??
Otherwise, of the 5 phones we tested, it had the largest and probably most
legible screen display.
I can't comment on the 7960 as I was not able to test this model.
