Stefano what i did is (kernel 2.4.19):

Compiled 
usb-uhci
usbcore
ppp_generic
as modules. After that i uncommented ztdummy in the Makefile 

MODULES=zaptel.o tor2.o torisa.o wcusb.o wcfxo.o wcfxs.o \
        ztdynamic.o ztd-eth.o wct1xxp.o  #ztdummy.o

A make, make install in zaptel made the ztdummy.o .
