<p>Asterisk SCF has support for some <a href="/wiki/display/TOP/Builtin+Supported+Media+Formats" title="Builtin Supported Media Formats">common media formats</a> "out-of-the-box". Support for additional basic media formats can be <a href="/wiki/display/TOP/Adding+a+new+media+format" title="Adding a new media format">added through configuration</a>. If a format requires features that cannot be configured with the existing Asterisk SCF media format components, additional support can by implementing the required code. The Asterisk SCF <a href="/wiki/display/TOP/Media+Design" title="Media Design">design pages for media</a> describe how Asterisk SCF uses the media format information for establishing communication between media endpoints. </p>
