<p>I've addressed your first point here by providing some expansion of those terms; I'm hesitant to provide any examples at this point, because it dives too deeply into implementation details.</p>
<p>As far as the layering discussion, I've gone with Ken's proposal; it's still useful in many situation to think of the layers as "above" and "below" each other.</p>
