<p>That's correct; .gitignore does not override files that are already tracked. There shouldn't be any tracked files in the 'cmake' subdirectory though, unless these instructions are missing something. How did you end up with it noticing changes in the subtree directory?</p>

<p>This doesn't seem to ignore changes to files that git already tracks. Is there some other way to avoid accidental changes?</p>
