For me it works. I am using Asterisk 1.4 (somewhere in-between 1.4.23
and 1.4.24) in the following config:
[general]
canreinvite=no
directrtpsetup=yes
[peer]
type=peer
canreinvite=yes
for nat=... the default setting is used, which is AFAIK nat=no
