I'm gobsmacked ... I don't think I've ever seen a wildcard A RR in DNS. 
Wildcard MX records sure, but A??

**OUCH** that's naaaaaaaaaaaasty.

Short fix - add:

216.27.40.102    beta.asterisk.org

to your /etc/hosts file, or the hosts file on your windows workstation and 
browse away.
