I'm sure the developers that would use something like this are already 
aware of it, but just in case this may be of use in the dsp/echo 
canceler area of Asterisk on PIII/IV CPU's.
It is the Approximate Math library on the page
http://developer.intel.com/design/Pentium4/devtools/
and according to
http://www.intel.com/cd/ids/developer/asmo-na/eng/microprocessors/ia32/pentium4/optimization/19036.htm?page=1
"As the "Open Source" tag implies, the AM Library is completely free and 
does not require a license to use."
It is quite probable that most of these functions are of no use or the 
fixed point implementations currently in use offer better performance.
